About Masjid Hamza

A grassroots community that grew from a two-bedroom house into a center serving 1,400 families.

Who we are

Masjid Hamza is committed to the Islamic way of life based on the Qur'an and the example of the Prophet Muhammad. We serve as a center for religious development and for social, educational, economic, and cultural enrichment. We believe in the Oneness of God and the oneness of humanity.

We began as a two-bedroom house. As the Muslim community in Valley Stream grew, so did we — moving into our current building in 2007 and acquiring three adjacent properties since. Today the masjid serves roughly 1,400 families, fifteen minutes from JFK.

The masjid is also known as the Islamic Center of South Shore. We are a Sunni congregation, established in 1990, located fifteen minutes from JFK International Airport.

How we grew

We started in a two-bedroom house. As the Muslim community in Valley Stream grew, the space stopped being enough, and in 2007 we moved into the larger building we occupy today. Following a community fundraiser, the masjid acquired three adjacent properties to make room for what comes next. Today we serve roughly 1,400 families — running a full-time K–6 school, a Hifz program, evening and weekend classes, and three Jummah services every Friday to fit everyone in.
